Town for Tomorrow
Town for Tomorrow was a collaboration with designer Cameron Lenton. Inspired by the progressive architecture and civic art of Scotland's New Towns, we created a limited run of hand-screened work shirts under the HB Electronics moniker.
I sourced a run of deadstock railway workers' shirts, and Cameron created a series of graphics based on our conversations about Cumbernauld town artist Brian Miller, Stan Bonnar's Glenrothes hippos, George Wylie's sculptures and the work of Ian Hamilton Finlay amongst other things.
To launch the collection we were lucky enough to have an installation at Herman Brown during the Edinburgh Festival. Cameron created a set of posters drawing on the graphic elements from the shirts and I wrote a brief essay about my memories of visiting my grandparent's postwar tower block in Cumbernauld.
Thanks to Neil Kellas for screenprinting, Miles Kondracki for modelling while nursing an injured leg, and Anna and the team at HB for the incredible window installation. Special mention to Cameron for patience and creativity throughout!
